Cardinals Sweep Naz In Battle of the Beaks

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team were on the road on Wednesday for a meeting with cross-town rival, Nazareth University. The Cardinals made quick work of the Golden Flyers, sweeping the opposition 3-0 on their way to an 8-8 overall record and 3-0 in conference play.

Fisher fell behind 4-0 to start the match but settled into their groove and rallied off seven unanswered points to claim control. Another run of five straight points gave the team a lead that they used to cruise to a 25-17 set victory. Naz once again jumped in front in the second frame and maintained the lead until Fisher turned it on down 10-7. Kills by Kaylene Noble and Delayne Young were catalysts to a 5-0 run that gave the team a 12-10 lead. Points by Ana Gutman and Reilly Morrow began an 8-0 run that the Golden Flyers were unable to overcome and Fisher claimed the second set, 25-15. In the third frame, it was the Cardinals that came out hot, jumping out to an 8-1 advantage and cruised to a 25-16 set and match win.

Noble led the way with 10 kills, three service aces and eight digs. Gutman was second on the team in kills with nine on a .333 hitting percentage, which was highest on the team (min. 10 attacks). Young and Kiera Hartpence each contributed 12 digs and Hartpence led the way with four aces.
