VICTOR, N.Y. – Senior Ethan Billings of the St. John Fisher University men's cross country team placed sixth at the 2023 Empire 8 Cross Country Championships on Saturday, hosted by Nazareth College at Victor's Parkview Fairways.
Billings finished the 8K with a time of 25:41.0, good for a first-team All-Empire 8 honor and around 20 seconds ahead of his rival, Nazareth's Nate Bowers.
"He has been chasing Bowers from Nazareth all season, and ran well to finish ahead of him," said Fisher head coach Mike Henchen.
The Cardinals finished fourth in the team competition, with 71 points. After Billings, senior Riley Nash placed 11th (26:16.9), senior Bogdan Rozvora in 16th (26:33.3), freshman Jace Stuart 17th (26:41.4) and senior Tony DiRubbo rounding out the Cardinals top five in 21st (26:54.2).
Houghton won the team competition with 31 points, followed by Nazareth (44), Utica (70), and the Cardinals. Utica's Bennet Melita (24:54.0) won the individual title.
Qualified Cardinals will take part in the NCAA Regionals on Friday, Nov. 10, on the campus of Houghton University. The race is set to start at 11:00 A.M.
