UTICA, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team drew with Utica, 1-1, on Wednesday. The result means the Cardinals finish second in the Empire 8 regular season standings and earn a bye into the semifinals of the Empire 8 tournament.
The Cardinals scored first on an unassisted fourth-minute goal by junior Riley Grimm, her third of the season. Grimm tied for the team lead on the day with five shots, including four on goal, for the day, but was unable to score again. Junior midfielder Emma Spelman also had five shots.
Utica equalized on a Cora Kraft goal in the 16th minute, and the 1-1 score held until the end of the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Avery Byrnes made five saves on the day for Fisher.
The Cardinals will host the semifinals of the Empire 8 tournament at Growney Stadium on Wednesday, Nov. 1 against the winner of Saturday's game between Alfred and Utica. Game time has yet to be announced.
