PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team ends its regular season at Utica on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Where they go from there, however, has yet to be seen. The Wednesday match is set for 4:00 P.M.

On Saturday, the Cardinals won their lone game of the week, defeating Houghton, 5-0. At 7-3-4 overall and 4-0-3 in conference play, Fisher is tied with Nazareth with 15 points in the Empire 8 standings but, at the moment, would fall to second due to tiebreakers. Who will be at the top will depend on the results of the final game and a potential series of tiebreakers.

I Was Told There'd Be No Math: St. John Fisher can finish as high as first or as low as third in the Empire 8. The easiest way for the Cardinals to come away as regular season Empire 8 champions would be if they defeat Utica while Nazareth ties or loses to Alfred. It becomes more complicated if both Fisher and Nazareth win or if both tie.

Should both teams win, the top seed would be determined by the team's results against other Empire 8 teams in descending order. To make a long story short, this would mean that Fisher would be the number one seed if Russell Sage overtakes Alfred in the Empire 8 standings (they are currently two points back in the standings) but would be number two otherwise.

If both Nazareth and Fisher tie, Fisher would end up the number two seed, as Nazareth beat Utica, and Fisher would have only tied them.

Home Season '23: The Cardinals are done with the home portion of their 2023 regular season. They went 4-1 at Growney Stadium this season, with their lone loss coming to nationally-ranked University of Rochester on Sept. 21.

Pioneers! O Pioneers!: Fisher is 10-7-3 against Utica since 2005 but fell to them in the conference semi-finals last season, 5-3 at Growney Stadium. During the regular season, the 2022 edition of the Cardinals tied the Pioneers 2-2.

Player To Watch: Graduate student Jenn Kirker rocketed to the top of the Empire 8 leaderboard in goals after a hat-trick against Houghton on Saturday. The Nursing major is now tied for first with six goals.
