PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team won a key matchup with Sage College on Saturday, 1-0, at Growney Stadium.
The win gives space for St. John Fisher over the Gators, who were one spot behind the Cardinals in the Empire 8 standings going into the game.
The Cardinals' lone goal came on a header in the 12th minute by junior midfielder Kate Rachwal, her second goal of the season. Emma Spelman earned the assist for setting up the header.
Sophomore goalkeeper Avery Byrnes saved both shots-on-goal she faced for her fourth complete-game clean sheet of the season. Spelman was aggressive on offense, with three shots including a shot on goal.
The Cardinals conclude their regular season home schedule next Saturday, Oct. 14, for Senior Day against Houghton. Kickoff at Growney Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
