ALBANY, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's tennis team was on the road on Sunday to take on Russell Sage College in an important Empire 8 Conference matchup. The Cardinals fell to the Gators by a close, 5-4 margin and now hold a 2-6 overall record and 1-4 in conference play.
In the doubles matchups,
Eliana Kelly and
Lilly Miller completed their match first and were victorious in an impressive 8-1 fashion. In the singles, the Cardinals made a comeback, with key wins by
Lilly Miller and
Julia Knutsen to push the team in front. Miller won 6-1, 6-0, before Knutsen battled to win 6-3, 6-4. After dropping two singles matchups,
Anna Exford put the team back on the board with a 6-3, 7-6 win. Unfortunately, they were unable to secure the key victory and fell 5-4.
Up next for the Cardinals is a road matchup to wrap up the regular season. They will travel to Houghton University to take on the Highlanders on Saturday, Oct. 7 for a 4 p.m. contest.
