Men’s Basketball Secures Road Win Against Keuka

KEUKA, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team traveled to compete against Keuka College on Tuesday night. After 40 minutes, the Cardinals came out on top by a score of 88-63. The Cardinals now hold an overall record of 13-6, and are 9-3 in conference play. The Wolves fall to an overall record of 7-10, and stand at 3-9 in conference play.

Connor Recore got the scoring started for the Cardinals, he had the first steal of the game which then transitioned to a layup on the other end. Jack Foley followed right behind with the next two points, finishing on a layup assisted by Daniel Cook off an offensive rebound. The Wolves answered right back, tying the game up and it started a back and forth between the teams. At the 9:35 mark the Cardinals started to gain momentum and pull away. Eric Kegler recorded a steal, pushing transition to Foley who converted it to two points on the other end. Cook extended the lead to eight points, 22-14, with seven minutes to go off a layup. Joe Morrell sunk a three point shot with three minutes to go, assisted by Recore. Fisher was up by 10 and kept the momentum running. Foley finished out the scoring with a three point basket with just three seconds left to solidify the Cardinals leads going into halftime, 36-26.

As the second half began, Recore took it hard to the basket to tally the first two point for Fisher. Cole Thompson had a defensive rebound, dishing it to Cook who got it back to Thompson for a three pointer, the Cardinals go up by 14, their biggest lead yet. Cook fought hard on an offensive rebound to put it back up tallying two points for Fisher, the score stands at 49-33 with 12 minutes to go. The Wolves fought hard to stay in it, but Fisher held on and would not let them gain any momentum throughout the second half. The Cardinals went on a nine-point run that solidified a gap that the Wolves could not come back from. This run was started by Ryan Gentile by sinking a three point shot, assisted by Thompson off a timeout. Recore and Cook followed behind with the next six, the score was 82-57 with 2:13 to go. The Cardinals did not let up and won with a final score of 88-63.

Recore led the way with 23 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one steal and went 10-for-16 on field goals and 3-for-3 on free throw attempts. Cook was right behind with 19 points, ten rebounds, four assists, two steals and went 8-for-16 on field goals.

Up next for the Cardinals, they will host Medaille University on Friday Feb. 3rd for their first of two Empire 8 match ups going into the weekend. The game is set for 7:30 pm.
