PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher Men's Track and Field team traveled to Nazareth College to compete in the Nazareth Conference Challenge Cup. The meet took place on Saturday and was hosted by Nazareth College. As a team, the men placed 9
th out of ten teams.
Head Coach,
Mike Henchen, had this to say, "The Conference Challenge is a unique meet where two teams from different conferences are pitted against each other. For example, we team up with Nazareth to represent the E8 Conference".
The men had 21 performances that moved them higher up the Empire 8 Conference Championship qualifying list.
On the Track
Ethan Billings had a strong performance in the 5000m, running 15:29.38 to place 7
th. His performance qualifies him for the Empire 8 Championship meet, the All-Atlantic Regional meet, and currently puts him atop the Empire 8 leaderboard.
Bogdan Rozvora also qualified for the Empire 8 Championship meet, running 16:20.55. Other conference meet qualifiers included;
Brandon Nicosia,
Nick Ferri, who ran a PR, and
Riley Nash.
In the 60m hurdles,
Trenton Wynn ran an Empire 8 qualifying time of 8.90. Luke Defio put in a personal best performance.
The 60m saw
Curtis Cuvilly place 9
th with a time of 7.22. Cuvilly,
Ryan Delaine,
Peter Briggs, and
Bryce Grove all ran PRs.
In the mile,
Jason Kincaid ran an Empire 8 Championship meet qualifying time of 4:47.52.
Cole Ferris had a strong race in the 400m, running 51.83 to place 10
th.
John Ruggio qualified for the Empire 8 Championship meet, running 54.70. Both runners ran personal bests.
The 800m saw
Dylan Esquivel qualify for the Empire 8 Championship meet, running a time of 2:05.73.
Brock Young had a good race in the 200m, finishing 8
th with a time of 23.52.
In the 3000m,
Ethan Morales had a strong PR, breaking the 10-minute barrier for the first time.
The meet ended with the Cardinals placing 7
th in the 4x400m. The group of Rob Hartigan,
Brady Bishop,
Myles Andersen, and
Cole Ferris ran 3:31.51 to move to the top of the Empire 8 leaderboard.
In the Field
In the weight throw,
Brandon Kaplan threw 13.68m to place 9
th.
Josiah Bowers threw 10.60m in the shot put to qualify for the Empire 8 Championship meet. Ashton Glasser also had a strong performance, throwing a personal best of 11.77m.
The long jump saw
Jason Weng qualify for the Empire 8 Championship meet, jumping 5.63m.
Ivan Lopez-Testillano jumped 13.77m to place fourth in the triple jump, qualifying him for the Empire 8 Championship meet and putting him first on the leaderboard. His jump also qualifies him for the Atlantic Championship and sees him sit at 35
th in the nation.
In the high jump,
Sean Cochrane jumped 1.91m to place 2
nd overall.
Next up for the Cardinals is the Brockport – Multi Invite hosted by SUNY Brockport on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4.
