Women’s Basketball Extend Winning Streak With Victory Over Elmira

PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University women's basketball team took on Elmira College away for a Friday night Empire 8 matchup. The Cardinals continued their momentum, winning 74-51 against the Soaring Eagles. After tonight, Fisher improves their record to 15-2 and 10-0 in conference play. The Cardinals push their winning streak to 11 games as they stay on top of the Empire 8.

Sidney Tomasso struck first for the Cardinals, netting a good jumper to make the score 2-4 in the Soaring Eagle's favor. A few minutes later, Presleigh Brunner made a good three-pointer, followed 30 seconds later by another three-pointer, tying the game at 8-8. Kaitlyn Walker made a layup that saw the Cardinals take the lead for the first time. Shortly after, Claire Kruszka got on the scoreboard with a jumper. The next few minutes involved the Cardinals furthering their lead, with Katie Moravec and Hannah Ferguson both getting on the scoreboard, the quarter ended 23-14 in Fisher's favor. The second quarter started out slow for the Cardinals, with Emilia Johnson scoring a good three-pointer, nearly three minutes in. Brunner picked up the scoring a couple minutes later with a three-pointer. An eight-point run by the Cardinals saw them push the lead to 37-22. The quarter ended with Anna Milham making two free-throws, making the score 42-27.

The second half started strong for the Cardinal's with Kruszka shooting a three-pointer, shortly followed by a layup. A few minutes later, Walker scored a layup, making the score 49-32. Kruszka's strong quarter continued, with her making another three-pointer. A bit later, Brunner and Ferguson both picked up two good layups. Near the end of the quarter, Ashley Pavan scored a good jumper, the quarter ended 62-41 in favor of the Cardinals. The final quarter started slow, with Walker scoring a layup nearly three minutes in. Shortly after, Ferguson and Tomasso both scored layups. Ferguson picked up the final layup of the game, and the Cardinals won 74-51.

Brunner led the Cardinals in points, scoring 16, having five rebounds and two assists. Walker also had a strong performance, scoring 11, five rebounds, and one assist. Ka. Moravec led in assists with four, while also having five rebounds and playing 23 minutes. Walker played 28 minutes, scoring 11 points, five rebounds, and one assist.

The Cardinals play next away on Saturday, January 28 for a 2:00 p.m. Empire 8 matchup against Alfred University.
