BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher Men's Track and Field team traveled to Brockport, N.Y. to compete in the Winter Welcome Back Meet. The meet took place on Saturday and was hosted by SUNY Brockport.
Head Coach,
Mike Henchen, had this to say, "We challenged both teams to perform outside of their comfort zones today – to take a bit of a risk and to push the performance envelope a bit. Both teams responded very well".
The men had 25 new or improved E8 qualifying marks.
The 5000m run saw
Kevin Havens run 16:55.91, a personal record, to take 6
th place, putting him second on the Empire 8 leaderboard.
In the mile,
Ethan Billings ran 4:33.78 to qualify for the Empire 8 Championships.
Nick Ferri, 4:45.75, and
Riley Nash, 4:48.34, also ran qualifying times. All three runners ran personal bests.
The 60m hurdles saw two conference championship qualifying performances.
Maxwell Blowers ran 9.71 to qualify, with
Josiah Bowers right behind with 9.72.
In the 400m, Rob Hartigan ran 53.59 to qualify for the Empire 8 Championships.
Myles Andersen also qualified, running 54.11.
The 60m saw
Curtis Cuvilly take 10
th place with a time of 7.25, putting him third on the Empire 8 leaderboard. Not far behind, was
Brady Bishop, running 7.29 to also qualify. Other qualifiers included
Trenton Wynn and
Cole Ferris. Cuvilly, Bishop, and Ferris all ran PRs.
Peter Briggs ran 2:06.40 in the 800m, an Empire 8 Championship qualifying time.
Jason Kincaid also qualified, running 2:07.20.
In the 200m Ferris ran an Empire 8 Championship qualifying time of 23.50. Bishop was not too far behind, qualifying with a time of 23.55. Wynn and Hartigan both also ran qualifying times.
The 3000m had Tony DiRubbo run an impressive PR of 9:19.02 to take 10
th place and qualify for the Empire 8 Championships.
Ethan Morales also ran a PR.
In the 4x400m relay, the team of
John Ruggio, Luke Defo,
Peter Briggs, and
Mathieu Acquard took 9
th place with a time of 3:41.99.
Sean Cochrane had a strong performance in the high jump, jumping 1.96m to take second place and put him second on the Empire 8 leaderboard, an all-time PR that ranks him 22
nd nationally.
Kuyler Coffin jumped 1.71m, a college PR, to also qualify for the Empire 8 Championships.
The weight throw saw
Keegan Reyome throw 11.47m, a personal best, to qualify for the Empire 8 Championships.
The shot put had
Joey Curr throw 10.94 to qualify for the Empire 8 Championships. Ashton Glasser and Curr both had solid PRs.
Next up for the Cardinals is the Nazareth College Conference Challenge hosted by Nazareth College on Saturday, Jan. 28.
