BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team competed against SUNY Brockport on Sunday and despite 20 combined shots between the two teams, the contest ended in a 0-0 draw. The Cardinals now have a 1-0-1 record, and the Golden Eagles fall to 0-1-1.
In the first half of the game, Fisher had a few different opportunities to jump ahead. In the fifth minute,
Grace Wolsieffer hit her shot wide.
Kayla Rhude then connected with a header, on an
Emma Spelman corner kick, that was blocked by the defense. In the final minute of the first frame, Christina Fan Allan took a shot that forced a goalkeeper save. Defensively, the Cardinals allowed just two shots, but each was on goal and
Avery Byrnes made the necessary save.
The Golden Eagles immediately came out attacking in the second half, recording two shots on target in the opening minute of action. For Fisher,
Siobhan McMakin and Rhude each had shots on target that the Brockport goalie was able to handle. Byrnes finished the day with six saves in her 90 minutes of action and was a key part in keeping the score at 0-0.
Fisher are coming home for their next game. It will be their home opener and it will be against Geneva College. The contest will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. at Growney Stadium.
