PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team, finally played their first home game of the year on Saturday, hosting Geneva College at Growney Stadium. The Cardinals were impressive on offense, defeating the Golden Tornadoes 6-1 and now hold a record of 2-0-1. Geneva move to 1-2-2 on the season.
The scoring began with incredible passing down the middle of the field that gave Gwenyth Madden the opportunity to put the team ahead 1-0 off of a
Grace Hainsworth assist.
Siobhan McMakin assisted on the second goal of the game, delivering a corner kick into the box that Kathleen Rachwal was able to connect with and slot into the back of the net. At the half, Fisher led 2-0 and outshot the opposition 8-1.
Grace Wolsieffer wasted little time to score the team's third goal of the game. She used a couple of dribble moves to get past defenders and as soon as she entered the box delivered a strike to the top left corner of the goal.
Tori Cruz joined the party in the 57th minute when she forced a turnover and from 25 yards out shot a ball by the diving goalie. Five minutes later
Kayla Rhude made it 5-1. A ball deflected off of a Geneva defender and Rhude one-timed it to the left side of the goal. The final goal was scored by
Kyra Kenyon in the 75th minute. Madelyn Jackson placed a perfect pass to the feet of Kenyon, and she easily one-timed the ball into the back of the net.
The Cardinals will remain at home for their next game. They will host the University of Rochester for a match under the lights on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
