Field Hockey Battles Bombers On The Road

ITHACA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University field hockey team were on the road on Sunday to take on Ithaca College. The offense struggled and after tallying just six shots, they fell to the Bombers, 4-1. This moves the Cardinals to a 0-2 record, while Ithaca elevates to 2-0.

Fisher fell behind quickly, with the Bombers scoring at the 3:56 mark in the first quarter. They withstood any further attacks and didn't allow another goal in the first half. The Cardinals, were only able to get one shot off in the opening three quarters, but in the final frame they totaled five shots including a goal. Molly Fisher had the honor of scoring the team's first goal of the season and it was assisted by Anna Melfi. The third quarter was what hurt the Cardinals, as the Bombers turned up their attack and scored three of their four goals in a seven minute span.

The team totaled six shots, five of which were on target. Fisher and Gianna Palma both had two shots, while Emma Cooper and Audrey Grieb each had one. Sophia Trozzi got the start in goal and collected eight saves.

Up next for the Cardinals is a home game against New Paltz. The contest will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. at Growney Stadium.
