BALTIMORE, MD – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team competed in day two of the Greg Giovanazzi memorial invite on Saturday. They battled against Stevens Institute first before taking on the host team, Johns Hopkins University. The Cardinals are returning home after dropping both matches and falling to 1-2 on the year.
 
In the first match of the day, the two teams appeared evenly matched as it went down to a fifth set. Fisher took the first set, 25-20, before dropping set two and three. The fourth set was back-and-forth before the Cardinals were able to pull away and force the fifth set. The fifth set was once again a tight battle, with neither team going up by more than three.
 
Unfortunately, with the score at 13-13, Fisher had consecutive errors that lost them the match. Delayne Young and Kristen McIntosh were kill leaders with 13 and 12 respectively. Katie Leaty had another strong assist game with 36. As a team Fisher totaled 8 block assists and ten serve aces. In the second match of the day, Fisher fell to the host Blue Jays in three straight sets, 25-19, 25-19 and 25-22. Sydney French, Kiana Walker and Young, all had seven kills, with Leaty tallying 18 more assists.
 
Next for the Cardinals is a double header at SUNY Geneseo against Heidelberg University on Saturday, Sept. 10. It will begin with Fisher playing the Student Prince at 1:30 p.m. and the Knights at 4 p.m.
