GENESEO, N.Y. -- The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team split two games in Geneseo on Saturday, besting Heidelberg University in three, and dropping in four to SUNY Geneseo. The Cardinals are returning home with a record of 2-3 on the young season.

After handling the first two sets, 25-22, 25-20, the Cardinals had to battle to secure the victory in the third set. Heidelberg were fighting to stay ahead the entire third frame, going ahead by as many as three points towards the end. However, kills by
Kristen McIntosh,
Kiana Walker and
Sydney French secured four of the final five points to give them a match victory.

Walker finished with 12 kills and 12 digs in the sweep, while junior
Delayne Young added nine kills of her own. Four blocks from the senior,
French, fueled the defense of the Cardinals.

In the second match of the day, Fisher fell to SUNY Geneseo in four close sets. In the first set, with the score tied at 25-25, the Cardinals dropped consecutive points. Fisher pulled ahead in the second set starting 7-3, eventually finishing the frame with a 25-20 victory. The Knights would bounce back with back-to-back set wins.

The Cardinals finished the game with 56 kills, behind
Young's 14 kill and 21 dig performance. Graduate student
Katie Leaty paced the Cardinals with 45 assists.Â

Fisher will finally open up the home portion of their schedule as they welcome Lasell University and Penn State Behrend for a tri match on Friday Sept. 16 starting at 3 p.m.
