PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University football team welcomed students back to campus by putting on a show at Growney Stadium against Buffalo State. After collecting a total of 525 total yards and scoring nine touchdowns, the Cardinals defeated the Bengals 62-21 to start the new campaign 1-0. It is the first time since 2019 that Fisher recorded over 500 offensive yards and the first time they scored over 60 points since 2016.
Just Keep Running
The Cardinals ran the ball 35 times and totaled 310 rushing yards, the most since 2015.
Malachi Duvall was spectacular taking advantage of solid offensive line play to rush for 180 yards to go along with four touchdowns. Two of Duvall's scoring runs were over 65 yards, with the longest being 83 yards.
Peyton Nolan was busy as well tallying 105 yards on 16 rushes and adding a touchdown of his own. Quarterback
Aaron Chase, also recorded a touchdown after rushing for 25 yards on four attempts.
First Half Dominance
Fisher went into halftime with a 41-7 advantage after scoring 14 points in the first quarter and 27 in the second quarter. The defense was a main player, holding the Bobcats to three and outs on their first five drives. In addition to Duvall's 83 yard run,
Michael Krafty came in to replace Chase for a play after his helmet came off, and threw for a 75 yard touchdown to Turner Depalma.
What's next?
The Cardinals will be on the road for their next two games starting with Framingham State University. That game will be at 12 p.m. on Sept. 10. The following week, Fisher travels to Hobart College for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 17.
