FRAMINGHAM, MA – The St. John Fisher University football team went on the road on Saturday and took on Framingham State University. The Cardinals got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 14-0 lead, but were unable to hold as they fell to the Rams, 31-20. Fisher now holds a 1-1 record, while Framingham also hits 1-1 on the season.
The Cardinals came out of the gate firing, forcing the Rams to punt on their first possession.
Malachi Duvall continued his momentum form the first game rushing for ten yards in his first three rush attempts and adding a 16 yard reception as well.
Aaron Chase was then able to hit
Gabe Maloni for a 30 yard touchdown pass to go up 7-0. After the defense forced another punt, Duvall wasted no time taking the ball 75 yards for a rushing touchdown. Fisher had momentum, but the Rams were not going to give up. They answered with a touchdown drive of their own to cut their deficit to one touchdown.
Between the second and third quarter, the Rams scored the only points, a rushing touchdown in the second quarter. Fisher then allowed 17 unanswered points. The Cardinals were able to end on a positive note, going down the field 75 yards in nine plays to score a touchdown as time expired. Duvall had another strong performance, rushing for 116 yards on 21 carries and one touchdown, while also adding two receptions for 30 yards. Maloni ended the day with 85 yards on four receptions and a touchdown. Chase threw 13-for-33 and tallied 160 yards through the air for two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also carried the ball seven times for 61 yards.
St. John Fisher will be on the road for their next game. They head to Hobart College on Saturday, Sept. 17 for a 1 p.m. matchup.
