GENEVA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University football team were on the road on Saturday to compete against Hobart College. The game was a low scoring affair, but the Cardinals were on the wrong end of it, losing 17-0. Fisher now holds a record of 1-2 on the year, while the Statesmen move to 2-1.
The Cardinals were able to get into the Hobart side of the field in their first three drives, but none ended in points. Fisher twice went for it on fourth down, but were unable to get the needed yardage to keep the chains moving. Later in the third quarter the team once again attempted to convert a fourth down at the Hobart 35 yard line, but the rush came just short of the first down mark. As the game clock counted down regulation, Fisher made one last attempt at the end zone, but the pass fell incomplete and they walked away with a 17-0 loss.
Aaron Chase was 20-for-32 for 210 yards and one interception. The rushing attack was by committee, with
Peyton Nolan,
Aaron Chase and
Malachi Duvall all rushing over ten times for a combined total of 104 yards. Jaylen Brantly led the way in receptions with seven to total 59 yards, while
Gabe Maloni led the way with 82 yards, on five receptions. On defense,
Joe Miscia tallied 12 total tackles and
Andrew Casanova,
Jason Rodriguez and
Anthony Manna got involved in tackles-for-loss.
The Cardinals will be home for their next game, taking on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, Sept 24. It will be a celebration of past Cardinals, as St. John Fisher prepare for Alumni Weekend. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m. at Growney Stadium.
