ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's soccer team were on the road on Tuesday to take on the University of Rochester. The Yellowjackets were recently ranked no. 22 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and it was set to be a test for the Cardinals. Despite being out shot 16-7, Fisher was able to keep the offense at bay and settled for a 0-0 draw. With the result, the Cardinals now sit at 2-4-2, while U of R move to 5-1-2.
The first opportunity for Fisher came in the 14th minute as
Stephen Guidi fired a shot on goal that required a goalkeeper save. Ten minutes later, Tim brown and
Parker Hotchkiss had chances to score. Browns shot was aimed at the top left but, was saved and Hotchiss' attempt was high over the crossbar. A couple more opportunities came up as the team reached the end of the first half.
Reese Powers had an attempt go wide left, and later Riley Reese took a shot that went to the center of the goal but the goalie was there to make a routine save.
In the second half, the first shot for the Cardinals did not come until the 61st minute.
Jackson Bishop fired a shot on target that was saved at the bottom right of the goal. The final shot for Fisher came in the 79th minute, as Bishop once again took an attempt that was on target. He took his chance towards the middle of the net, but the Yellowjacket goalkeeper was there to keep the ball out of the net.
Jadon Schlierf was in goal for the Cardinals and in 90 minutes of action, recorded five saves and a clean sheet.
Up next for Fisher is a home game on Saturday, Oct. 1. They will welcome Elmira College to town as they enter the Empire 8 conference portion of their schedule. The match is slated to start at 2 p.m. at Growney Stadium.
