ALRED, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's soccer team were on the road on Saturday for a matchup against Empire 8 foe, Alfred University. After 90 minutes of action, the Saxons walked away victorious over the Cardinals 2-0. The results puts Fisher at 2-4-1 on the season, while Alfred move to 3-4-1.
The Cardinals had some opportunities to get on the board on corner kicks in the fifth and 21st minute by
Justin Bonetto and
Trevor Heschke, but neither turned into shots on target. Bonetto once again had a chance in the 24th minute, but it went just wide of the goal. The Saxons knocked in the first goal of the game in the 26th minute. Fisher had a couple of more chance, but shots by
Nick Rippe and
Ryan Collins went above the crossbar.
Fisher were quickly down 2-0 in the second half, but it did not stop their aggression.
Parker Hotchkiss and
Brennan Brown both had shots blocked by the opposition defense and later a Bonetto header went just high of the net. The final opportunity for the Cardinals came in the 85th minute when
Drew Ksanznak took a shot the forced a goalie save by the Saxons.
Fisher is once again on the road on Tuesday, Sept. 27 as they head to the University of Rochester for a game under the lights. The match is set for a 7 p.m. kick off.
