PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University field hockey team were at home on Wednesday for a conference battle against Keuka College. The Cardinals were in need of a victory and tallied eight goals to walk away with an 8-1 win. They now have a record of 1-5 and are 1-1 in the Empire 8 conference. Keuka now sit at 1-6 on the year and 1-1 in E8 play.
Fisher got off to a fast start, scoring a goal in the second minute of the game thanks to
Emma Cooper. The Wolves answered in the eighth minute and it was all tied up after one quarter. In the second,
Audrey Grieb tapped in a deflection after a
Riley Jameson shot was saved by the goalie, and Fisher was ahead 2-1 going into the break.
Coming out the half, the Cardinals began to turn up the heat. Cooper assisted on back-to-back goals in the third frame, passing the ball to
Molly Fisher in the 36th minute and
Morgan Flatley in the 44th minute. After Flatley's goal, Cooper knocked in her second goal of the day thanks to an assist by
Sam Choate. Three more goals came in the fourth quarter, starting with Choate in the 47th minute.
Anna Melfi then came off the bench and recorded two goals in a two minute span with assists by
Gianna Palma and Flatley.
As a team, Fisher totaled 26 shots, 16 of which were on goal and had 10 penalty corners.
Sophia Trozzi was the goalie for the full 60 minutes and recorded four saves on the day.
