Cardinals Score Three Against Allegheny

MEADVILLE, PA – The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team began the 2022 season on the road against Allegheny College. The Cardinals were dominate, out shooting the Gators 22-3, 14 of which were on target. The win puts Fisher at 1-0 on the year, while Allegheny drop to 0-1.
 
Grace Wolsieffer got the scoring started in the 24th minute after a free-kick fell into the box and after taking a deflection, she was able to swoop in and knock the ball into an empty net. Two minutes later, Jacqueline Gervais intercepted the ball in the opponents half and after controlling the ball, she chipped a beautiful pass into the box. Emma Spelman used a touch to control the ball and slotted it into the left side of the net. The third and final goal of the match came on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute. Jennifer Kirker stepped up to take it and knocked it in for her first of the season.
 
Gervais finished the day with five total shots, three of which were on goal. Spelman, Wolsieffer, Tori Cruz, Kirker and Siobhan McMakin all had multiple shot attempts this game. Avery Byrnes was in goal for all 90 minutes and faced minimal action, recording just one save on the day.
 
The Cardinals head to SUNY Brockport on Sunday, Sept. 4 for a 1 p.m. match. They will play their first home game on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. against Geneva College.
