BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The St. John Fisher College women's track and field team wrapped up competition at the 2022 All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships with a pair of top-five performances on Thursday at Moravian University.

The Cardinals earned nine points and concluded the two-day event with 19 total points. Fisher was 17th out of 54 teams in the standings, while SUNY Geneseo was crowned the regional champion with 134 points.

Fisher's highest individual finisher on day two was sophomore Michaela Kurbs. After running in the 100-meter dash prelims on Wednesday, she set a new personal record in the long jump at 5.81 meters. Kurbs placed fourth in the event, while climbing the national outdoor list to tie teammate Veronica Duell with the 10th-best long jump in Division III. Duell also competed on Thursday and was 13th with a distance of 5.43 meters.

The Cardinals participated in two other field events, the shot put and hammer throw. In her second event of the AARTFC Championships, Makenna King tossed the shot 11.36 meters for 17th place. Jordan Lehman earned a top-10 finish in the hammer, taking home ninth place with a mark of 45.37 meters.

After qualifying for the 100-meter hurdles with a near PR time in the preliminary race, first-year sprinter Ciarra Franz earned a spot on the podium. She finished in fifth with a time of 14.80 seconds.

Two Cardinals ran the 400-meter dash. Samantha Shea and Gracie Wright, who were part of the school-record 4x400 relay team on the opening day of the AARTFC Championships, placed 11th and 14th, respectively, in the 400. Shea logged a time of 57.74 seconds, just 12-hundredths of a second faster than Wright (57.86 seconds).

The group of Taylor Highers, Vanessa Ramos, Angelea Collins, and Alivia Collins ran in the 4x800-meter relay. Highers (2:27.18) ran the quickest leg to start the race for the Cardinals, while Alivia Collins passed Alfred University's Sarah Lutkins in the final 800 meters to secure 13th place.

The Cardinals now await declarations for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. Both Duell and Kurbs rank among the top 10 nationally in the long jump, while Shea and Franz both sit inside the top 40 in the 400-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles. The NCAA Championships will be held at The SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, from Thursday, May 26, through Saturday, May 28.
