Men's Tennis Rolls Past Alfred in Empire 8 Action

ALFRED, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher men's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 Empire 8 Conference victory on the road against Alfred University on Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals, now 4-7 overall, evened their Empire 8 record at 2-2 while tying a season-high with eight points in a win. The only match the Saxons (1-10, 0-4 Empire 8) managed to steal from Fisher was at No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 score.

Sean Danahy and Cameron Campbell defeated the Alfred tandem of Mike Roberts and Matthew Hibbert at No. 2 doubles, 8-4, and the duo of Zach DeCaro and Andrew Cegielski swept Sam Abu-Tutu and Evan Kent, 8-0.

Fisher's Jordan O'Connell and Ryan Wilson didn't surrender a point at No.4 or No. 6 singles, respectively, as both earned 6-0, 6-0 wins. Anthony Molosag was near-perfect at second singles with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Alfred's David Lingenfelter.

Danahy earned his fifth win of the season atop the singles lineup by taking down Logan Cross with identical 6-4, 6-4 scores. In the No. 3 spot, Gorman logged his fifth singles victory by taking down Mike Roberts, 7-5, 6-2.

The closest match of the afternoon was Campbell against Abu-Tutu in the fifth singles position. Campbell dropped the first set, but bounced back to even the match with a 6-4 win in the second set and a 10-8 victory in the tiebreaker.

Fisher returns home to host East Avenue rival, Nazareth College, for their Senior Day match on Tuesday, April 19. The Cardinals and Golden Flyers face off at the Mendon Racquet and Pool Club at 4:00 p.m.
