PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team collected its first win of the season behind a 7-2 effort as the Cardinals defeated Penn State Behrend as part of the team's annual spring trip to Hilton Head, S.C. With the win, Fisher improved to 1-3 while the Lions fell to 6-8 overall.
After surrendering a point following a loss at first doubles, Fisher responded by winning the remaining two tandem flights with
Sean Danahy and
Jake Anthony posting an 8-2 win at second doubles before
Zach DeCaro and
Andrew Cegielski pulled out an 8-3 decision at third doubles.
In individual play, Danahy earned his second point of the match after holding on to claim a 6-1, 6-7, 10-8 win at first singles before Kyle Forman and Anthony each posted a straight-set win in their respective singles matches.
Jordan O'Connell was a winner at fifth singles behind a 6-1, 6-2 performance while
Ryan Wilson played to a 6-0, 6-3 win at sixth singles.
Fisher will wrap up its play in South Carolina at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday when it takes on Baldwin Wallace.
