ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Day one of competition at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Indoor Championship, on Friday evening at the Golisano Training Center on the campus of Nazareth College, saw a handful of major personal accomplishments for members of the St. John Fisher College women's track and field team.
The day's standout performance came from sophomore
Makenna King in the shot put, who earned a career-best mark for the second time in three weeks. King's heave of 12.18 meters, which she achieved on her second attempt of the day, beat her personal best mark by 4.25 inches. The mark earned her fifth place for the Cardinals' lone podium appearance of the day.
Fisher indoor record holder in the 60-meter hurdles,
Ciarra Franz, pushed the program's record even further as she achieved a new best time of 9.07 seconds in the race's preliminary round today. The reigning Empire 8 Champion in the event, Franz broke her PR for the third-straight outing and was the day's third quickest qualifier for the race's final round, which will be held tomorrow.
The women's distance medley relay team of
Alivia Collins,
Emma Wright,
Angelea Collins and
Taylor Highers recorded their best time of the season today with a final time of 13:04.18 and finished in ninth place overall.
Empire 8 5,000-meter Champion,
Riley Corey, marked her third best time of the season in the day's race as she crossed the finish line in 18:26.46 and snagged a 12th place finish.
Finally, senior
Alondra Arroyo wrapped up her final indoor season with her second best height of the year in pole vault, at 3.07 meters, which she achieved on her first attempt.

Michaela Kurbs will all have another shot at greatness tomorrow, March 5th, on the final day of the AARTFC Championship.
