PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team avenged an early season loss on Saturday as the Cardinals won eight of nine points against visiting Oswego State in a non-conference pairing at Mendon Racquet and Pool Club. With the win, the Cardinals improved to 2-5 while the Lakers evened their season mark at 2-2.
Fisher swept all three flights in doubles play with
Jordan O'Connell and
Cameron Campbell teaming up for an 8-4 win at first doubles.
Jake Anthony, who as named the Empire 8 Player of the Week on Monday, combined with
Sean Danahy at second doubles for an 8-7 win while
Anthony Molosag and Zach Decaro took care of their opponents at third doubles behind an 8-3 finish.
The Cardinals carried their momentum over into singles play with Danahy posting a 6-2, 6-0 win at first singles before Molosag came out on top in second singles, 6-2, 6-4.
Kyle Gorman was a winner in the third flight with scores of 6-4, 6-2 while
Jake Anthony claimed a 6-3, 6-0 decision at fifth singles. O'Connell earned his second win of the day after taking sixth singles, 6-0, 6-1.
The Cardinals are scheduled to continue their season at 1 p.m. on Saturday when they begin Empire 8 play against Utica University at Mendon Racquet and Pool Club.
