ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University Womens Track and Field team stayed local to compete in the Nazareth College Alumni Opener on Friday.
Samantha Shea takes fourth in 400m race with a time of 58.88. In the 60m open race, the Cardinals impressed with Veronice Duell taking first with a time of 8.22, Isabell Rowley came in third with a mark of 8.33 and
Allison Lennebacker ended in sixth with a time of 8.44.
Ciarra Franz took second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.28.
The 4x200 saw three teams finish in the top-4 in the event. In second-place consisted of a unit of
Claudia Vogel,
Michaela Kurbs,
Maria Covelli and Duell who finished the race in a time of 1:50.50. In third place, the team of Franze,
T'Aliyah Perkins, Grace Wright and Shea crossed the finish line in 1:51.03.
Lilyan Humphrey,
Zhane Lettsome,
Isabelle Rowley and
Ashley Holt used a time of 1:53.89 to take fourth-place. Layren Almy qualified for the Empire 8 championship with her performance in the 3000m race.
In the field events,
Michaela Kurbs and Duell impressed in the long jump taking first and second respectively. Kurbs lept a distance of 5.61 in her first attempt and Duell hit a mark of 5.55 in her fourth attempt. In the shot put, Lindsey O'Brien set a new PR with a toss of 11.15.
Ciarra Franz's mark of 9.28 will put her currently in the top-20 in the nation in the 60 meter hurdles.
Samantha Shea's time of 58.88 should put her in the top-12 in the Nation.
Veronica Duell and
Michaela Kurbs both broke the school Indoor Long Jump record, with Michaela eventually coming out on top with her mark of 5.61 meters. Kurbs currently sits at number 3 in the Nation while Duell sits at number 6 in the Nation.
The Cardinals will compete in the Spartan Invite hosted by Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Friday, Jan. 13.
