CORTLAND, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University football team are winding their season down and the played in their final road game on Saturday against SUNY Cortland. After four quarters of play the Cardinals fell by a final score of 56-14. Fisher now holds a record of 4-5, while the Red Dragons remain undefeated at 9-0.
The Red Dragons jumped ahead quickly, scoring the first touchdown in the opening drive. In the second drive of the game, the Cardinals used 11 plays to go 52 yards, including completions from
Aaron Chase to
Turner DePalma,
Gabe Maloni and Brandan Gawel. However, the drive ended when an errant pass was intercepted by the opposition. As the first half ended, Fisher got to the Cortland 19-yard line on 11 plays, but on a fourth and long the team was unable to collected the necessary yardage. Going into halftime, the Cardinals trailed 35-0.
In the third quarter, Fisher scored their first touchdown of the day after going 75 yards in ten plays. Chase found Maloni for a 30 yard gain to help convert a third-and-short and using five straight rushes,
Malachi Duvall was able to push across the goal line. The second touchdown came in the fourth quarter, with
Michael Krafty under center. He led the team down the field and found Maloni for a 24 yard touchdown, which capped off a 73 yard, 10 play drive.
Up next is the final home game of the season, with the Cardinals hosting Utica University at 1 p.m. Prior to the game, Fisher will honor the team seniors.
