Football Season Ends With Senior Day Celebrations

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University football team were at home on Saturday as they played their season finale against Utica University. Prior to kick off the Cardinals honored their 32 seniors for the contributions they made to the program over the years. After the game was played, Fisher fell to the Pioneers, 35-21. The Cardinals end the season with a 4-6 record, while Utica moves to 9-1.
 
The Cardinals fell behind 21-0 with 12:33 on the clock in the second quarter, but they ended the half with some fight. Fisher's first touchdown began with a key Aaron Chase to Gabe Maloni connection. On second and nine, Chase found Maloni for a 27-yard gain to get to midfield. Later in the drive, Chase hit Maloni again for a 23-yard pitch and catch to get into the red zone. Peyton Nolan rushed for back-to-back three-yard gains before Chase pushed his way to the end zone on a four-yard run. The Cardinals were able to stop a fourth down conversion attempt by the Pioneers and in three plays, Chase found Turner DePalma for a 25-yard touchdown pass. At the half, Fisher was down 21-12.
 
In the fourth quarter, a Kyle Farewell punt pinned Utica at their on one-yard line. On the first play of the drive, Anthony Manna was able to get into the backfield and tackling the running back for a safety. The Fisher deficit was now 28-14. The Cardinals got the ball back on the kick off and went down the field in 11 plays to bring the score to 28-21. After a DePalma rush for eight yards, Chase completed four consecutive passes for 35 yards to get into Utica territory. After three rush plays for 23 yards, Chase hit Brendan Gawel in the endzone. Unfortunately, it was the last scoring play for the Cardinals and they fell by a final score of 25-21.
 
Chase threw for 221 yards on 18-for-28 throwing with two touchdowns. Chase also added 44 yards on the ground. Duvall and Nolan combined for 92 yards on the ground on 25 attempts. Maloni and DePalma both finished with seven catches, but Maloni had 106 yards to DePalma's 69.
