Women’s Basketball Take On Hamilton At Home

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University women's basketball team hosted Hamilton College on Tuesday night. After a 40 minute back and forth battle, The Cardinals fell short, with a final score of 70-64. Fisher move to 4-2 on the year, while Hamilton add to their record to sit at 3-1.

The Cardinals started out the first half strong with Kaitlyn Walker getting on the board first. She tallied the first four points for Fisher on two lay ups, both assisted by Katie Moravec. Sidney Tomasso sunk the first three pointer of the game for Fisher bringing their early lead up by five. Emilia Johnson and Moravec added to the early on success for the Cardinals, each tallying two points. The two teams battled back and forth, each gaining the lead throughout the first half. Claire Kruszka subbed into the game and put up five points not long after, putting Fisher on top by three. Throughout the second quarter, the two teams score gap was only as big as four points. Johnson, Moravec, and Tomasso strung together six points in attempt to pull away, but the Continentals kept fighting back. Lauren Nawojski finished the first half scoring on a layup assisted by Emily McLaughlin. The Cardinals went into halftime with a one-point lead, 34-33.

As the second half began, Moravec wasted no time getting to the basket and finishing on a layup. Hamilton went on a bit of a run to gain the lead, but Tomasso and Walker answered back on free throws. Kruszka knocked down a three to reclaim the lead at 46-43. Hamilton began to fight their way back by overcoming a seven-point deficit to even the score at 54-54 with 4:25 to play. Down the stretch, the Continentals were able to make their free throws to take away a 70-64 victory over the Cardinals.

Up next for the Cardinals, they will host Alfred University on Friday, Dec. 2, to open their Empire 8 conference play. The matchup is set to start at 5:30 p.m in Manning & Napier Varsity Gym.
