Women’s Basketball Win against the Tigers in Crosstown Shootout

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's basketball team competed against RIT at the University of Rochester in the Marks Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout on Saturday night. After the final whistle, the Cardinals came out on top, winning against the Tigers, 70-48. Following this win, Fisher improves their record to 4-1 on the season.
 
RIT started quickly with the first three-pointer of the night, however, the Cardinals responded back with nine unanswered points, highlighted by Emilia Johnson's three-pointer in the first minute of the game. The two teams started going back and forth, with RIT scoring a jumper, followed by two good layups by Kaitlyn Walker. Johnson would continue the momentum with a jumper, followed by a Tiger's three-pointer. The teams would keep going back and forth, with the Cardinals leading 20-16 after the first quarter. After six unanswered points by the Tigers, Sidney Tomasso tied the game with a good jumper. Tomasso continued with the next five points. Fisher started to run away, ending the half 42-27. Tomasso led the first half with thirteen points.
 
Fisher came out the gate in the second half with a free throw made by Walker. The teams went back and forth a bit until Presleigh Brunner went on a five-point run, scoring a layup and a three-pointer. The Cardinals continued their dominance, ending the third quarter with a last-second jumper by Katie Moravec, pushing their lead to 61-35. The fourth quarter started slow, with only eight points scored by both teams in the first four minutes. The slow scoring continued, with the Cardinals not scoring their next points until two minutes were left on the board, thanks to Julia Perales' good jumper. Moravec got the final points of the game, a three-pointer that helped the Cardinals win 70-48.
 
Tomasso led the game with 17 points and three assists, having seven rebounds as well. Brunner was not far behind, scoring eleven points and having nine rebounds. Walker was the top rebounder of the night, having 13 rebounds, eight points, and one assist. Johnson also had a great night, scoring nine points, three assists, and six rebounds.
 
The Cardinals return home on Tuesday, Nov. 22nd. Fisher will take on Hamilton College, with a 4 p.m. start time.
