WASHINGTON, PA – The St. John Fisher University field hockey team traveled to Washington and Jefferson College on Saturday in what was a hard fought battle against the Presidents. Despite putting up 18 shots, the Cardinals lost be a final score of 2-1. They now hold a 4-8 record and 3-2 in Empire 8 competition, while W&J move to 5-6 on the season and 4-2 in E8 competition.
Fisher put pressure on the opponents early with shots by
Molly Fisher and
Gianna Palma forcing saves by the goalie. In the 13th minute, the Cardinals knocked in the first goal of the game off of the stick of
Molly Fisher. The Presidents quickly answered in 40 seconds to even up the score. Fisher kept the pressure on with shots on goal by
Riley Jameson and Palma as the game went into half time.
The Cardinals saw opportunities throughout the third quarter.
Sam Choate had two shots blocked in that frame, while Palma took another shots on target, forcing a save. Fisher had three more shots, but none were able to find the back of the goal and the team fell by a final of 2-1. Fisher finished the day with seven shots, three of which were on goal.
Sophia Trozzi was in net and collected six saved in 60 minutes of work.
