Women’s Volleyball Extend Their Win Streak To Six

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team were at home on Friday and hosted Houghton University in an Empire 8 matchup. The Cardinals never saw a deficit as they walked away with a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-20, 25-9) and now move to a 10-4 record and are 5-0 in conference play. The Highlanders drop to 6-11 on the season and are 3-2 in E8 competition.
 
The first set began with an incredible 9-0 run with two kills by Olivia Nellis and Kiana Walker, two aces by Delayne Young and three errors by the opposition. Houghton clawed their way back to within three points at 21-18, but Fisher put it away with kills by Lindsey Debonis, Sydney French and Walker to take set one. In the beginning of the second frame, the Cardinals extended their lead to 8-3, thanks to service aces by Kiera Hartpence and Emily Brochey. The Highlanders once again climbed back into the set getting to within one point, but a 7-3 run to end the set allowed Fisher to go up 2-0 head into the third set.
 
The third and final frame was a story of absolute dominance by the Cardinals. They jumped out to a 5-0 lead off of three Young aces and attacking errors by Houghton. After a couple of points by the opposition, Fisher scored nine straight points, which included four service aces by Brochey. The match ended with the Cardinals going on a 6-1 run and claimed the set 25-9. The team totaled 20 aces, seven coming from Young, five from Brochey and four from Brooke Segars. Young also added seven kills and finished the match with 14.5 points. Leaty continues her journey to 1,500 assists by adding 18 tonight and it brings her career total to 1,490.
 
Up next for the Cardinals is a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 8. They will be hosting Medaille College and Elizabethtown College with matches starting at 12 p.m. at the Manning and Napier Gymnasium.
