PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University football team is set to return home this week as they prepare for a game against SUNY Morrisville Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. The Cardinals enter play with an overall record of 2-3 and 0-1 in Empire 8 games after dropping the Courage Bowl to Brockport 25-0. Morrisville was handed their first loss of the season last week as Cortland beat them 28-7. The loss dropped Morrisville's record to 4-1 and 0-1 in Empire 8 games.

LAST TIME OUT: St. John Fisher University was on the road Saturday, Sept. 24 for the annual Courage Bowl against SUNY Brockport. In the opening minutes of the game, Jason Rodriguez intercepted the ball, but the Cardinals were unable to convert on the opportunity. Fisher recorded just four first downs, 14 total rushing yards, 13 total passing yards. Joe Mischia had 10 total tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks.

SCOUTING MORRISVILLE: The Mustangs are off to their best start in program history (4-1) and began the season 4-0 before facing off against no. 14 ranked SUNY Cortland. So far this season they have allowed just 13.2 points per game which is third best in the Empire 8. On offense they average 132.2 rush yards and 138.8 pass yards per game. They have a two-headed rushing attack with running back Alex McBurnie (59 att. 243 yards) and quarterback Steven Frerichs (72 att. 282 yards). Frerichs has completed 57% of his passes for 694 yards and seven touchdowns.

QB ROOM ACHING:
St. John Fisher are down their top two quarterbacks and will be depending on Brody Vincenzi to have a bounce back performance to help lead the team to victory. The sophomore went 8-for-18 for 13 yards and an interception, while facing a lot of pressure, being sacked six times.

JOE ON A MISSION: Linebacker, Joe Miscia, has been all over the field defensively this season tallying 24 solo tackles, 29 assisted tackled for a total of 53 tackles. He ranks in the top-15 in NCAA DIII in total tackles and top-10 in assisted tackles. He also has 3.0 tackles for loss, 0.5 sack and one pass break up.

OFFENSIVE PLAYERS TO WATCH: Wide Receiver Gabe Maloni and running back Malachi Duvall will continue to be the center of attention on offense. Maloni has 24 receptions for 270 yards in five games and Duvall has 74 rushes for 383 yards and five touchdowns.

DEFENSIVE PLAYERS TO WATCH: No surprise that Miscia will be the player to mention as he has had a tremendous impact in the middle of the field. In the secondary, Justin Rodriguez will look to keep any passing attack in check. He has picked off the opposition twice this season and  wants to add another against Morrisville.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Cardinals have all Empire 8 opponents the rest of the season. Up next will be a road battle at Alfred University on October 15 at 1 p.m. before the team has their bye week. They then will return home on October 29 at 2 p.m. to face off against Hartwick College.
