Field Hockey Comeback To Defeat Lakers

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University field hockey team were at home on Tuesday, hosting Oswego State under the lights at Growney Stadium. The Cardinals overcame a 1-0 deficit to earn the 2-1 victory and improve their record to 4-7. The Lakers fall to 5-5 with their loss.

Fisher was not short on shots this game, totaling 20 on the day, 13 of which were on goal. Emma Cooper got the party started with a shot in the fifth minute, and teammate Gianna Palma and Molly Fisher each tallied an attempt that was saved by the goalie. Audrey Grieb took two shots in the first quarter, the first was wide and the second was another save for the goalkeeper. In the second frame, the Cardinals fired another five shots, but none found the back of the goal. Despite ten shots in the first half, Fisher still found themselves down 1-0.

After half time adjustments were made, the Cardinals immediately came out and evened the score. Grieb took a hard shot from the top of the arc that passed every defender and the goalie to make the score 1-1 three minutes into the third quarter. Three minutes later, Grieb sent a penalty corner to Selena Emery, who then found Choate for her third goal of the season. The Fisher defense kept the Laker offense quiet the rest of the game and walked away with the 2-1 win.

Fisher continues conference play with a road game at Washington and Jefferson College on Saturday, Oct. 8. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start.
