ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University field hockey team was away on Wednesday against the University of Rochester. After a hard fought battle, the Cardinals fell by a final score of 2-0. Fisher now stands at 7-10 on the season, while the Yellowjackets sit at 14-4 on the year.
Gianna Palma took the first shot of the game for Fisher in the 24th minute. Immediately followed by a shot by Audrey Greib that was saved by a Yellowjackets defender. Greib took the last opportunity to get the Cardinals on the board with 45 seconds to play, but the attempt was saved by the U of R goalie. Fisher took three shots on goal in the first half but did not capitalize. The Fisher defense held strong in the first half of play, Sophia Trozzi faced 11 shots, only allowing one goal. Going into half the Cardinals were down 1-0.
As the second half began, both teams battled back and forth to end the third quarter scoreless. Molly Fisher took the only shot for Fisher in the second half at the end of the third frame. As the final quarter started the Yellowjackets quickly capitalized, and went up by two. Fisher was unable to get on the board after 60 minutes of play. Trozzi faced 10 shots in the second half, and had nine saves on the day. Fisher ended by falling to the Yellowjackets 2-0.
Up next for the team is an Empire 8 match up against Utica University. The game is set for Saturday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m in Utica, NY. This game will conclude the Cardinals regular season and conference play.
