PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team hosted Alfred University on Saturday as they celebrated senior day. After a hard fought battle for both teams, the game ended in a 0-0 draw. The Cardinals now hold a record of 6-2-6 overall and 4-0-3 in conference which has them in first place despite three teams have 15 points. The Saxons now sport a 6-5-4 mark and are 3-1-4 in conference games.
In the first half, the Cardinals totaled nine shots, four of which came in the opening ten minutes of action. Grace Wolsieefer took the first chance at the two-minute mark, before
Ryann Dauksza took a shot a minute later and both went wide of the goal.
Megan Letta and
Kate Rachwal took shots on target within a minute span, but the Saxons goalie took care of the shots and kept Fisher off the board.
Kayla Rhude had a chance in the 18th minute, but it was a little too high and it hit the crossbar.
Emma Osterhoudt, Wolsieffer and
Gwen Madden ended the half with opportunities that the opposition saved. Neither team found the back of the net and after 45 minutes of action the score remained 0-0.
The second half began similarly to the first, with the Cardinals taking shots on goal. Osterhoudt took the first of the new frame in the 48th minute, but it was saved. At the 52:14 mark, Rhude had an opportunity to put the team ahead, but the goalkeeper continued to have a good day and recorded another save. Despite continued attempts at goal by
Bella Guarracino, Osterhoudt and Dauksza, the Cardinals were unable to break open the scoring and settled for 0-0 draw.
Fisher have two more regular season games and both are on the road. The first is on Wednesday, Oct. 26 and they travel to Keuka College for a 4 p.m. Empire 8 contest. The final match is on Saturday, Oct. 29 where they head to Elmira College for an 11:30 a.m. game.
