PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University field hockey team hosted Russell Sage College on Saturday for Senior Day. The Cardinals stayed on top throughout all 60 minutes to finish the game, winning 10-0. With the win, Fisher moves to 7-9 on the season and 6-2 in conference play. Russell Sage drops to 1-13 overall and 0-8 in the conference.
The first quarter action started just two minutes into the game when Emma Cooper took control and was the first to get the Cardinals on the board. Shortly after, Sam Choate fired and scored. To continue the Cardinals scoring run was Gianna Palma, who at the 10 minute mark, got her first point of Senior Day. To finish out the first quarter scoring was a goal by Molly Fisher assisted by Cooper.
As the second quarter began, no time was wasted to get the scoring started. Palma scored at the 18 minute mark with her second goal of the day. Just 45 second later, a pass from Palma found Taylor Scrocca as she tallied another goal for Fisher. Morgan Flatley secured her first goal of the day at the 22 minute mark. The next opportunity for Fisher was created off an assist by Palma, her fourth point of the day, and Anna Melfi finished it. Katie Schirrmacher scored the final goal of the half, as well as her first collegiate career goal, it was assisted by Choate, her second point of the game. The Cardinals dominated the first half with 20 shots and a score of 9-0 after 30 minutes.
The Cardinals took control and slowed the game down at the start of the second half. Palma scored the first goal of the frame as well as the 10th and final goal of the game. Palma finished the day with the team high of three goals and two assists. The Cardinals gave a strong all around team effort to top Russell Sage 10-0 at the end of 60 minutes.
The team travels down the road to take on the University of Rochester on Wednesday Oct. 26. The game is set to start at 7pm.
