ALFRED, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University football team was on the road on Saturday to take on Alfred University. After a quiet half offensively, the Cardinals scored three touchdowns in the second half to defeat the Saxons 21-7. The win pushes Fisher to a 3-4 record, while Alfred fall to 2-4.
 
The first half was slow offensively for the Cardinals, recording four punts and an interception in their first five drives of the game and recording a total of 112 yards. However, in the second half, they began to take advantage of their opportunities. In their first drive of the frame, they punted after going 20 yards in six plays, but Ryan Novy forced a fumble and recovered the ball to give the team the possession near midfield.
 
The team proceeded to move up the field with rushes by Malachi Duvall to give the team a first down and then Aaron Chase hit Declen Faery for a 21-yard gain. A couple of plays later, Chase hit Gabe Maloni for a 20-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7-7. In the fourth quarter, Fisher forced a punt to get the ball back with 12:03 to play. After five plays for 12 yards, the Cardinals were ready to settle for a field goal, but a personal foul penalty by Alfred gave Fisher a new set of downs at the 13-yard line. Peyton Nolan then used three rushes to reach the end zone and give the team a 14-7 advantage. After the defense forced another three and out and a punt, Duvall rushed twice for 51 yards to secure his first touchdown of the game, and to secure the victory at 21-7.
 
Chase finished the day throwing 16-for-30 for 215 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Duvall totaled 94 yards in 16 carries and Nolan added another 45 yards on the ground in 14 carries for a touchdown of his own. On defense, Joe Mischia tallied nine total tackles. De Andre Green had a good day, recorded five tackles, one for loss, while adding an interception and two pass break ups. Deorion Moore also had an interception, to go with four tackles and a pass breakup. Andrew Casanova had three tackles, one for a loss, a sack and a forced fumble.
 
The Cardinals will have their bye week next week, but then return home for their next contest on Saturday, Oct. 29 when they welcome Hartwick College to Growney Stadium.
