ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team fell in its 2021 road debut at Eastern University on Saturday evening, 0-3. The Cardinals evened its record to 1-1 on the season, while the Eagles won their season opener at Olson Field.
Although the Cardinals unloaded the first shot of the game, momentum quickly shifted in the direction of Eastern, who put eight more on the stat sheet before the end of the first half. Two of those shots by the hosts, taken within three minutes of each other, found the back of the Cardinals' net, which put Fisher at an 0-2 disadvantage headed into the intermission.
Just two minutes into the second half, Eastern extended the deficit to three, but the Cardinals would ramp up their attempts and curb their opponent's chances. Fisher enjoyed a 7-4 shot advantage and got two more corner kicks than the Eagles in half number two, but they could not find the back of the net before the clock read 90:00.
Cardinals' goalkeeper,
Jadon Schlierf, made three stops after facing 12 shots on the night, six of which were on goal. His goalkeeping record moves to 1-1 with the team's.
Justin Bonetto led the way for the Fisher offense as he recorded three shots in the match, followed by
Brennan Brown who had a pair of his own.
Cam Webb,
Antonio Buonomo, and
Ryan Collins shared the remaining three attempts.
Fisher is back to work this Wednesday, September 8th when they travel across town to The College at Brockport for a 7 P.M. non-conference bout with the Golden Eagles.
