BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team suffered its second defeat of the year at the hands of area foe, The College at Brockport Golden Eagles, following a 1-4 final score at Bob Boozer Field on Wednesday night. The Cardinals now slip to 1-2 on the year, while Brockport grabbed its second win of the year and improved to 2-1-1 overall.
Although the Cardinals were awarded a corner kick just a minute and a half into competition, the hosts took control of play in the midfield, as they then fired five shots on two corner kicks in the direction of Fisher keeper,
Jadon Schlierf, before they could get another shot off which came in the 27th minute. About eight minutes later, the hosts found themselves on the scoreboard and the Cardinals went into the intermission facing the one goal deficit.
A little under seven minutes into the second half, Brockport added another score to the board, then added two safety cushions to its goal total before the 60-minute mark.
In the 69th minute, however, Fisher would capitalize on its best opportunity at goal, as
Jackson Bishop scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick, which narrowed the inevitably unattainable Golden Eagle advantage to three.
The Cardinals took seven total shots on the night, led by Bishop's single shot and goal, while the remaining six shots were uncorked by
Stephen Guidi,
Justin Bonetto,
Ryan Brown,
Drew Ksanznak,
Ryan Collins, and
Ben Conrow.
Schlierf's record in goal moves to 1-2 with the squad's as he tallied four saves in his 74 minutes in goal, as
Ethan Doerschuk came on in relief.
Jack Burgasser's group looks to bounce back this Saturday, September 11 when they make the trip down to Ithaca College for a 2 P.M. face off with the Bombers.
