Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rease's Two Goals, Schlierf's 10 Saves Lead Men's Soccer to Draw at Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y.Riley Rease scored two goals, including an 87th minute equalizer, as the St. John Fisher College men's soccer team settled for a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon with the No. 23 Ithaca College Bombers at Carp Wood Field. Both teams earned their first tie of the year, as the Cardinals moved to 1-2-1 while the Bombers are now 2-2-1 on the season.

After being outshot for the entirety of the game's 120 minutes, with a 27-4 final deficit, the Cardinals made it count on a 50% shooting percentage.

The freshman's first goal came in the 63rd minute following Ithaca's first goal of the game, just 11 minutes earlier. Rease's goal – the first of his collegiate career – as he was set up off a set piece by Ryan Brown for his first point of the year.

Ithaca looked like they had scored the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute, if it weren't for Rease's heroics as he took a header from Ben Woolingham about six yards out which stung the back of the opponent's net to send the match to overtime.

Although the Cardinals' offense did not record a shot in the overtime period, the defensive line of Brown, Cam Webb, and Tim Brown connected to form a wall in the backfield. The group paired up to keep the pressure off Fisher keeper, Jadon Schlierf, as they allowed just three of Ithaca's seven overtime shots to reach Schlierf.

Rease headed the Fisher campaign with his two shots on the day, while Stephen Guidi and Paraskeva Tegas made up the remainder of the Cardinals' attempts at the net.

The 2020 Empire 8 Goalie of the Year, Schlierf, made a career-high 10 saves in the 110-minute draw, as his record moved to 1-2-1 alongside the team's record.

Fisher is back at home in less than three days as the Cardinals host SUNYAC foe Buffalo State for a 7 P.M. kickoff at Growney Stadium on Tuesday, September 14.
