Late Penalty Kick Proves Costly for Men's Soccer in Loss to Buffalo State

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team was unable to overcome a late goal as the Cardinals fell to visiting Buffalo State, 1-0, on Tuesday night in a non-conference tilt inside Growney Stadium.  With the defeat, Fisher slipped to 1-3-1 on the year while the Bengals improved their season mark to 4-1-0 overall.

After a scoreless first half of play, Fisher looked to set the tone in the second half with three shots and a pair of corners over the first 25 minutes of play, but the Cardinals were unable to net the difference maker.

As the game wore on, Buffalo State snapped the scoreless tie in the 78th minute after it worked the ball deep into Fisher's zone and drew a foul inside the box to set up a penalty kick that found its mark.

Trailing by a goal with time running out, the Cardinals were unable to generate anything in the offensive end of the field as the Bengals escaped with their fourth win of the season.

Jadon Schlierf was saddled with the loss after playing all 90 minutes in goal and accounting for seven saves on the night.

The Cardinals will enjoy eight days off before welcoming Clarkson University to campus at 4 p.m. on Wednesday for another non-conference affair inside Growney Stadium.
