HOUGHTON, N.Y. – It was the perfect day to be a fan of the St. John Fisher College women's tennis team, as the Cardinals were unblemished in their two Empire 8 outings this afternoon at the Kerr-Pegula Field House. Fisher downed Houghton, 7-0, before going on to blank Russell Sage, 9-0. With the victories, the Cardinals retain their unbeaten record of 4-0, while Houghton fell to 0-3 and Sage dropped to 2-2.

The Cardinals came out of the gate hot, as first and second doubles play favored Fisher by 7 set wins.
Mikayla Santulli and
Kathryn Strait paired up at first doubles for an 8-6 victory over the Highlanders.
Veronika Jurczuk and
Elizabeth Schneider produced an 8-3 win at second doubles, while the team of
Valerie Morgans and
Jacqueline Chouinard were awarded a point following a no result.
Singles play only showed more Fisher success, as Santulli downed her opponent in first singles, 8-3, and newcomer Strait took the victory in second singles, 8-6. Morgans and
Maddie Galvin both defeated their respective Highlanders, 8-3, at third and fourth singles.
Amanda Thongsirimonghoun swept her opponent in straight sets, 8-0, and
Natalie Eisenson was awarded a Fisher point after a no result.
FISHER 9, RUSSELL SAGE 0
Santulli and Strait teamed up in first doubles against the Gators and took another 8-6 victory, while the team of Morgans and Chouinard manned second doubles and downed their pair of Gators, 8-4. The third doubles team of Jurczuk and Schneider took all but one set from their respective opponents in an 8-1 triumph.
Singles play saw more Fisher dominance as Santulli grabbed an 8-4 win, Strait took her match, 8-6, and Morgans downed her opponent, 8-2, in first through third singles. At fourth through sixth singles, Galvin, Chouinard, and Thongsirimonghoun were unstoppable as all three Cardinals took straight-set victories at 8-0.
Women's tennis gets back to work this Friday, March 26 when they welcome the Alfred University Saxons to their home courts at Mendon Racquet and Pool Club for a 3:30 P.M. Empire 8 battle.
