UTICA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team capped off its regular season with a 7-2 win over Russell Sage on Saturday in an Empire 8 clash inside the Bubble at Utica College. With the win, Fisher improved to 5-4 on the year and 4-2 in league play while the Gators fell to 0-10, 0-6, respectively.
The Cardinals earned two of three points in doubles competition led by
Jacqueline Chouinard and
Madison Galvin who paired up for an 8-2 decision at second doubles.
Elizabeth Schneider and
Riley Ellis came out on top at third doubles behind an 8-1 performance to stake Fisher to a 2-0 lead.
In individual play,
Keely Legnard pulled out a 6-0, 6-2 decision at second singles. Galvin posted a sweep at second singles, 6-0, 6-0 before Chouinard overcame a 6-2 loss in the first set before winning 6-0, 10-7 to nab a point at fourth singles.
Ellis dominated at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-1 while
Natalie Eisenson won at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-0.
Fisher will vie for its second Empire 8 Championship beginning Friday when it plays in the semifinal round of the four-team tournament.
