PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to 10 matches on Friday night after sweeping the Alfred University Saxons in an Empire 8 tilt inside Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium on Bobby Wanzer Court.  With the win, Fisher, which remained in first place in the conference standings, improved to 13-3 and 4-0 in the league while the Saxons fell to 7-10, 0-3, respectively.
Lindsey DeBonis finished with a team-leading 12 kills to go along with eight digs in the win while
Alea Steigerwald added 11 kills of her own paired with 13 digs and two aces.
Gracie Jacob contributed eight kills over three sets while
Sydney French chipped in with six kills, four digs and an ace.
Katie Leaty recorded 36 assists overall and had 11 digs while
Kara Kingsbury and
Julia Halsey were credited with nine and eight digs, respectively.
After coming from behind to win the first set, 25-21, the Cardinals found themselves in a seven-point hole in the second set after the Saxons jumped out to an early 12-5 lead.  Undaunted, Fisher regained its composure and reeled off five unanswered points to pull to within two at 12-10.
From there, Alfred would push its lead back to four, but the Cardinals countered with six of the frame's next seven points to forge ahead, 17-16.  As the set wore on, head coach
Kelly Greapentrog's team would use another run, this time posting three straight scores to open up a 21-18 edge that forced Alfred into a timeout.
Clinging to a slim advantage, Fisher's momentum continued as the home team produced four of the final five points including a kill by
Olivia Nellis to come out on top, 25-20.
In the third set, Fisher got off to a quick start and put Alfred down by six, 13-8.  The Saxons continued to battle down the stretch, but were no match for the Cardinals at the net as Fisher pounded home seven kills over the final 12 points to complete the sweep.
Fisher will look to keep its winning ways going beginning at 12 p.m. on Saturday when it travels to Elmira to face the Soaring Eagles in an Empire 8 clash inside Spiedel Gymnasium.  Following their bout with the home team, Fisher is scheduled to take on Misericordia at 2 p.m.
