Bird's Eye View - 2019 Women's Golf

The St. John Fisher College women’s golf team continued to make strides as the Cardinals competed in four tournaments during the abbreviated 2019-20 season. Emily Schultz earned a spot on the First-Team All-Conference list as Fisher had numerous top-10 finishes throughout the campaign.

Here are the highlights from their season: 

Women's Golf Plays First Round at William Smith Invitational

The St. John Fisher College women's golf team opened up their 2019 season as the Cardinals played 18 holes at the William Smith Invitational.  After the first round, three Cardinals have combined for a score of 293.
 
Junior Emily Schultz is tied for 7th place as the Penfield native sits at +12 through 18 holes. Emma Pyrak is tied for 38th place at +32 while Gabrielle Papale sits one stroke behind at +33 and is in 40th place.

Schultz Ties For Sixth As Women's Golf Completes Play At William Smith Invitational

The St. John Fisher College women's golf team wrapped up play on Sunday as the Cardinals moved up the leader board for three top-40 finishes at the William Smith Invitational. The three Fisher finishers combined for a second-day total of 269, an 24 stroke improvement on Saturday's total. The Cardinals totaled a combined score of 562 over the two-day tournament.

Emily Schultz shaved three strokes off her score and jumped a spot on the leader board as she finished tied for sixth place with a final score of 165 (+21). Junior Emma Pyrak shot a 93 on the day, an 11 stroke improvement as she moved up four spots and finished tied for 34th place with a final line of 197 (+53). Gabrielle Papale improved 10 strokes on the day, as she finished in sole possession of 37th place and shot a 200 (+56) over the course of the tournament. 

Schultz Finishes Third as Women's Golf Competes at Cortaca Northeast Invite

Emily Schultz finished third at the Cortaca Northeast Invite as the members of the St. John Fisher College women's golf team competed in the tournament over the weekend. The Cardinals played 36 holes over the weekend split evenly between The Country Club of Ithaca on Saturday and at Cortland Country Club on Sunday. 

In the first round, Schultz shot an 82 (+10) over 18 holes. Junior Emma Pyrak and freshman Gabrielle Papale tied each other as the pair both shot a 98 (+26).

On Sunday, Schultz shot only one stroke greater than her previous outing and totaled a 165 (+21). She trailed just two other competitors, as she finished just 9 strokes behind her closest competitor. The junior tallied a single birdie on the day and shot for par 17 times. 

Pyrak shaved six strokes off her day one total as she finished with a score of 190 (+46), a score that won her one half of 24th place. She birdied one hole and notched 10 pars. Papale shot a 102 on the day and finished tied for 31st place after she shot a 200 (+56) and shot for par five times. 

Women's Golf Opens Play at Northeast Women's Golf Conference Championship

The St. John Fisher College women's golf team opened play at the Northeast Women's Golf Conference Championship as the Cardinals played 18 holes in the first round.
 
Emily Schultz sits atop the leaderboard for Fisher as the junior is tied for 5th place as she shot an 89 (+17) on the day.
 
She is followed by her teammates, Gabrielle Papale and Emma Pyrak, who are neck-and-neck on the player leaderboard. Papale shot a 102 (+30) which tied her for 21st place and Pyrak shot only one stroke greater than her teammate at 103 (+31) and is tied for 25th place.

Schultz Named First Team All-Conference as Women's Golf Finishes Play at Northeast Women's Golf Conference Championship

The St. John Fisher College women's golf team wrapped up play at the Northeast Women's Golf Conference Championship on Sunday as all three Cardinals improved upon their day one scores.

Emily Schultz paced the Cardinals as she shaved eight strokes off her score for a final line of 170 (+26) which won her a fourth place finish. The impressive position earned her the NWGCC honor of First Team All-Conference.

She was followed by fellow Cardinal Emma Pyrak who made the day's most impressive jump as she moved up eight places on the leaderboard and took 11 strokes off her day one total. Pyrak shot a 195 (+51) over the two-day tournament and finished tied for 17th place.

Gabrielle Papale bettered her game by four strokes and finished at an even 200 (+56) as the freshman took home half of 23rd place.

Schultz Wins NWGC Player of the Week Honor Following Second Place Finish

Emily Schultz, a junior on the St. John Fisher College women's golf team, was named Player of the Week by the Northeast Women's Golf Conference on Tuesday following a strong performance at the Nazareth College Invitational last weekend.  In doing so, Schultz became the first Cardinal to ever win the award following the conference's formation prior to the start of this season.
 
Schultz finished second overall to close out the fall schedule as the Fairport native posted an 82 (+10) on Saturday as part of a two-day total of 173.
 
A First-Team All-Conference honoree following her outing at the NWGC Championship two weekends ago, Schultz finished fourth overall in the field at the Championship and has now claimed four top-10 finishes on the season.Schultz Takes Second as Women's Golf Wraps Up Fall Schedule at Nazareth Invitational

Schultz Takes Second as Women's Golf Wraps Up Fall Schedule at Nazareth Invitational

The St. John Fisher College women's golf team wrapped up its fall schedule over the weekend at the Nazareth College Invitational as three Cardinals posted top-10 finishes. 

Emily Schultz paced the Cardinals as she led all competition after round one after she shot an 82. On day two, she posted a 91 which brought her final shot total to 173 (+29), which was good for a second place finish. She finished 5 strokes below the first place finisher. 

Freshman Gabrielle Papale finished tied for 6th place as she shot a 91 on both days of competition. Her final score was 182 (+38). Emma Pyrak rounded out the weekend's competition as she posted a two-day score of 188 (+27) which won her half of 10th place. 

Pyrak and Schultz Honored for Academics by Northeast Women's Golf Conference

Two members of the St. John Fisher College women's golf team were recognized for their academic success earlier this week as the Northeast Women's Golf Conference released its 2019 Academic All-Conference Selections.

To be eligible, student-athletes must have completed one full calendar year at their current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. In addition they must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution.

For Fisher, both Emma Pyrak and Emily Schultz were applauded as the duo was among 24 student-athletes from all 11 institutions to be honored. Keuka College had the most recipients with five. Alexis Anastos (Johnson & Wales), Nicole Krause (Manhattanville) and Katie Goulet (Husson) had the distinction of earning all-conference honors both on the course and in the classroom.

Both Pyrak and Shultz turned in strong performances over the fall with Schultz finishing fourth in the inaugural Northeast Women's Golf Conference Championship in October.  For her efforts, Schultz was named First-Team All-Conference after finishing the two-day tournament at +26.
