Trotman Named to NFCA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament Team as Softball Finishes Spring Break Trip 7-3

TUCSON, AZ. - Following an outstanding performance in the NFCA Leadoff Classic, St. John Fisher College softball P/UTL Emily Trotman was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Cardinals closed out their spring break trip at Abraham Lincoln Regional Park with two washes.

The East Amherst native was crucial on both sides of the ball for the Cardinals in their four games of the Leadoff Classic. In the circle, Trotman appeared in three games and threw 18.2 innings as she went 1-1 with one save, walked just three batters, and struck out 12. After allowing just five earned runs, her season ERA improved to 2.46. The leadoff hitter went 7-for-14 at the plate with a homer, a walk, a stolen base, three RBI, and scored four runs. Her batting average on the season jumped to .457.

The Cardinals were scheduled to play games against No. 1 Texas Lutheran University and Emory University on Sunday, but intermittent rain turned the playing surface unsafe as the NFCA was forced to retire the remaining of the tournament.

Fisher and reigning national champions TLU made it to the bottom of the third inning before the game was called off. After the Bulldogs put two runs up in the top of the first, Fisher got a run back after two straight singles from Maria Marcera and Abby Flakus allowed Allie Klonowski to knock the lead runner home on a single through the left side.

The second frame and the top of the third were scoreless, but the Cardinals were up to fight as the Flakus walked and Klonowski reached base on a TLU overthrown ball, which allowed Flakus to score from second, to tie the game up at two runs apiece. The game was then sent into a rain delay and soon canceled as field conditions became unplayable.

Softball closes out their spring break trip in Arizona with an overall record of 7-3. They get back to work on Wednesday, March 25 in their home opener when the University of Rochester travels across town for a non-conference doubleheader at 3 P.M. and 5 P.M.
