HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis put another tally in the win column on Wednesday as the Cardinals defeated host Houghton College, 7-2, to remain atop the Empire 8 standings. With the win, Fisher improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 against conference competition while the Highlanders fell to 2-7, 1-3, respectively.
The Cardinals nearly swept all six points in singles play led by
Kaili Saffran in the first pairing as the Webster native posted a 6-1, 6-3 decision. At second singles,
Cassidy Bell put up a 6-3, 6-3 win while her sister,
Cydney Bell, took down her opponent at third singles behind a 7-5, 7-5 effort. At fifth singles,
Jacqueline Chouinard posted a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win while
Veronika Jurczuk won at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles play, Jurczuk and
Mikayla Santulli were winners, 8-3, followed by Chouinard and
Valerie Morgans taking a point at third doubles with an 8-1 triumph.
The Cardinals will look to make it three wins in a row at 4 p.m. on Friday when they welcome SUNY Geneseo to Mendon Racquet and Pool Club for a non-conference match.
